I’ll Get You
Swan
4152, September 1963
ULTRA-RARE
1963 VERY FIRST ISSUE
BRIGHT
RED TITLES ON WHITE LABELS, OSC
(SWAN 4152.01C, Spizer)
Because
She Loves You did not sell well upon its initial release,
the
original Red Print on
White Label pressings of the disc from September 1963
are very rare and highly
collectible. While Swan 4152 will never attain the
legendary status of the Vee-Jay 498 single, dealers and Collectors are beginning
to realize that the original 1963
White Label
pressings of
She Loves You are EXTREMELY RARE.
In addition, some 1964 pressings, such as the
White Label with Blue print variation and the
one-sided I'll Get You promotional 45, are also very
scarce.
(Both items are currently available from Fab 4 Collectibles).
(ACTUAL
SCANS)

This mega-rare single being offered here was pressed
by RCA Records in Rockaway, New Jersey, and was the first of the
Swan Beatles singles to have "DON'T DROP OUT" printed on the
upper left side of the label. This was Swan's contribution to the
national
campaign encouraging high school students to remain in school and
graduate.

The 45s pressed
by RCA in Rockaway can be indentified by the
bright red print, and the tall thin letters used for the song titles and
the
group's name. Additionally, there is a hand etched "R" appearing in the
trail off
areas. All initial pressings of this single were manufactured with
metal parts originating from lacquers prepared by Reco-Art in
Philadelphia. Therefore, this 45 single does have the "A1" Stamper and
"MASTERING RECO-ART PHILA" machine stamped markings in the
trail off, defining it as the true and authentic first pressing.

The condition of
this ultra-rarity rates a stupendous Near Mint,
with very bright, clean "white" Labels, and the Vinyl is
astonishing, with a "newly pressed" shimmer.

Finding this rarity in this condition, is quite an achievement, and
would
be a vital addition to the serious Beatles Record Collection.

RARE BLUE PRINT ON

BLUE PRINT TITLES

(SWAN 4152.04C, Spizer)
Dealers
and Collectors are beginning
to realize that not only is
the original 1963
White Label
with Red Print pressing of
She Loves You extremely rare, but the early 1964
White Label with Blue print variation is also very scarce -
much sought after due
to its novel appearance and rarity .
(ACTUAL
SCANS)

This
is indeed the RCA, Rockaway New Jersey pressing with
the
blue print that includes the "Produced
by George Martin" credit
on both sides. The
"MASTERING RECO-ART PHILA" machine
stamped markings is found in the trail off on the A-Side,
and the
"VIRTUE
STUDIO" hand etching on the B-Side.

The condition of
this rarity is a great Near Mint
Minus on the A-Side
and the a VG++ on the B-Side, retaining a glorious sheen
and displays only a few superficial, light marks.
The Labels, also grade a Near Mint Minus, with sporadic minimal wear.

This example
of the Swan Blue print is a real find, for this
variation is always found in horrendous condition.

Song titles and group's name are in tall thin print. The song titles are
in quotes and spread loosely.
The George Martin production credit appears on both sides below then
running time.
The trail off areas have the record numbers and Virtue Studios hand etched
markings.
In addition, the trail off areas appear to have machine stamped Audio
Matrix and script ARP logos,
which appear on the Vee-jay Beatles discs.

I’ll Get You
Swan 4182, 5/21/64, OSC
(SWAN 4182.01A, Spizer)
“Bold” print with same line translation.
The German-lyric
recording of Sie Liebt Dich was recorded
by the Beatles on January 29, 1964 and was issued in Germany
on the Odeon label in mid March 1964.
On or about May 21, 1964, Swan released a single pairing
Sie Liebt Dich (She Loves You) with the same master recording
of I'll Get You that served as the B-side to She Loves You.
The record lists the group as "DIE BEATLES" on its A-side label.

Swan was hoping that the novelty of
hearing the Beatles sing in German
would be enough to obtain radio air play and sales. It wasn't, for it dipped
to
number 97 before disappearing from the Billboard charts.
Furthermore, Swan had the rights to the specific master recordings,
but not the songs themselves and were sued by Capitol Records.
Swan settled the lawsuit, and the settlement killed any chance
of Sie Liebt Dich becoming a hit in the U.S.
This explains the record's relative scarcity.

Take Out Some Insurance On Me Baby
Atco 6302, 6/64,
OSC
Atlantic Records was one of several
companies that turned down the Beatles
in 1963. After Beatlemania gripped America the following year,
the company obtained the American rights to the four remaining songs
from the Beatles Hamburg sessions with Tony Sheridan
when it replaced MGM as the American distributor for
Deutsche Grammophon's Polydor subsidiary.
The first single paired two songs
featuring Sheridan on lead vocal :
Sweet Georgia Brown and Take Out Some Insurance On Me Baby.
Atlantic used three different
factories to press it's first Atco Beatles single :
(1) MGM Records in Bloomfield, New Jersey; (2) Plastic Products in
Memphis, Tennessee;
and (3) Monarch Records in Los Angeles, California.
This pressing offered here is the
Monarch Records variation,
(ATCO 6302.02C, Spizer).
The Monarch stock copy is the rarest of the three, is pressed in
styrene,
and has the machine stamped "MR" logo and hand-etched
job numbers in the trail-off areas.
(ACTUAL
SCANS)

The fonts on the Monarch labels are quite different than those
of the other two variations and have "THE BEATLES" in mid-sized tightly
spaced letters and "with TONY SHERIDAN" below the group's name.

What makes this
Monarch variation quite unique is that the B-Side title song
is printed on one line, rather than separated :

The condition of this beauty is a gorgeous Near Mint,
bordering Near Mint Minus due to one superficial light mark on the
A-side only.
The sheen of the grooves are sparkling, and the Labels are flawless and
bright.
Because this
Atco 45 did not sell well, it is relatively scarce and worth more
than the million-selling discs issued by Capitol. Finding one in this
stunning
condition is a true find and a great addition to one's Collection !
